What is sarcoidosis?
Sarcoidosis is a disease that results from a specific type of inflammation of tissues of the body. It can appear in almost any organ, but it starts most often in the lungs or lymph nodes.
In people with sarcoidosis, abnormal masses or nodules (called granulomas) consisting of inflamed tissues form. These granulomas may alter the normal structure and possibly the function of the affected organ(s).
Symptoms
Many people have no symptoms. If you have symptoms, they may include:
- Cough
- Fatigue
- Night sweats
- Shortness of breath
- Weight loss
